Content is king, advertising pays for it. Ad networks are a great way to increase passive income from your site. You want a network or combination of networks that will fit into your site. You also want to have something that is designed well and uses relevant links to gain more conversions. Here are some contenders in the advertising network market.

Chitika was founded in 2003 and has since become the leading blog advertising company with thousands of blogs and hundreds of advertisers.

4. Bidvertiser

Bidvertiser is selective about who they accept onto their site. They are a professional contextual advertising network which allows you to alter the size and shape of the ads you are displaying. A feature of Bidvertiser is that it allows the advertisers themselves decide on where they’d like the ads to be seen. This way, the ads become more appropriate to the user. Once you are selected, the service works much like Google Adsense.

5. Tribal Fusion

Another CPM ad network, bloggers generate revenue from page views with Tribal Fusion. There is a requirement that the blog generates an average of 5000 unique users per day, but you are paid quite well after you meet their standards.

6. Gorilla Nation

Once you have met Gorilla Nation’s stringent standards, you are treated like pure gold. Their automated processes allow you to devote more of your attention to developing content and driving the traffic. It is required that you have 750K monthly page views to be in their network, but they are a great choice once you reach this elite status.

7. Commission Junction

This affiliate network has a huge choice of advertisers. Whether you want to promote products for the home, financial offers or software downloads, it’s all here and more. One of the great things about CJ is the international dimension: there are programs available to run in every major market around the world, which makes CJ a no brainer if you have international traffic to monetize.

The great part about advertising networks is that you can mix and match which ones that you’re going to use. These six represent just some of the services that are out there. Choose the ones that are right for you, and you’ll be seeing your ad revenue rise.

5 Ways to Attract Readers to Your Blog

Your blogging enthusiasm will always be from your avid readers. Readers of your blog is very important because they boost your spirit in blogging. They are also they key to make money online. A reader of your blog is one of the most important things you need to think of when you’re starting up a blog.

So, how to get some readers? Well, based on my own experience in blogging within one and a half year, I have formulated five ways to attract readers to your blog

1. No good content, no readers. Of course, no one will read or even just visit your blog if you just right nothing but a piece of crap. Create more competitive blog posts. Write a blog post that will help others (like some guides, tutorials or a blog post something like this post you are reading). You must consider developing your writing skills because it is your power to enrich your blog’s content.

2. Be the Social Media King. Almost everybody who uses the web may also uses social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. And that means, you can grab those people in social networking sites to be your readers. How? Just be active in social networking sites. Be friendly. Build your online identity and eventually, a very nice reputation. By these, whenever you post an update on your status saying that you got a new
blog post, then your followers will definitely try to read or visit your blog.

3. Expand your online activity. Don’t stick in to one social networking sites. Create more. Don’t stick to one blog. Build another one. Just like what I did. Tumblr is a great blogging platform with a very friendly user interface. In Tumblr, it’s like blogging with social networking. And by that, you just don’t blog but you also socialize virtually with other people. And that’s what you call expanding your online activity.

4. Interact with other bloggers. No man is an island – always remember that. Yeah, you have a nice blog, but you don’t even have friends online? Virtual or online friends is a good source of readers for your blog. So always keep in touch with your friends and be friends with more people around your blog too. They can also help promote your blog. And even feature your blog on their own blogs. Always think that friendship is always a good thing.

5. Give your best. You learned my four techniques and the fifth technique is to master the first four techniques. Hard work is a must here in blogging if you want to be successful. Always maintain your online activity in different social networking sites, always create nice thoughts for your blog. Give your best to your readers because they are your machine that drives your blog in to success.

Photo Blogging 101 | Kelvinonian Ideas 2.0

While preparing for my speaking engagement for Blog World Philippines 2010, I managed to create some do’s and don’ts in photo blogging. I created this to remind newbie bloggers who are about to enter the photo blogging world that there are blogging etiquettes that they need to follow. And these reminders are focused on our blog’s reader convenience.

So, here are the Do’s and Don’ts in Photo Blogging:

Do’s…

1. Take pictures frequently – of course, pictures are your main content of your blog. It is the basic ingredient to build a photo blog. It is the most important of all because it is the essence of a blog being called a “photo blog”. So, you need to take pictures frequently so you’ll have something to post.
2. Add watermark on every photo - the world wide web is a huge place, meaning, there are lots of people who may visit your blog. And some of your visitors may have some evil minds, grabbing your photos without any permissions, and worst, use it for commercial use. So one of the best thing you can do to prevent the stealing of your precious pictures is to put watermarks on it. Watermark is your name or trademark or brand name that is written in your photos. Like mine, I put © Kelvin Servigon | Photography in my pictures before publishing them online.

Don’ts…

1. Do not add too much photos in a single post - because some of your readers may still have slow internet speeds. So if you put (for example) 10 pictures in a single post, and the reader has a dial-up connection only, then the reader needs almost 5 minutes just to see your pictures. 3-5 pictures in a post is recommended.
2. Do not post photos in a very high-resolution quality – so you obeyed the first “don’ts”. You put only 3 photos in a single post, but then, the size of every photo was so huge because you didn’t compress it at all! Like what I said, some of our readers have still slow internet speeds so we need to consider them. And the nice thing that we can do about it is to compress our photos into smallest possible size before posting it on our blogs.

Thinking of what to post next on your blog is a hard task. You need to consider many things, and be creative. But writing the post itself is even harder. As a blogger, you need to be good in writing to create a better content for your blog. And if your blog has good content, then it will definitely attract more readers.

Aside from good writing skill, you can also improve your blog posts by some useful tools. Right now, I’ll list the top tools that I use in writing a blog post that you can use, too.

1. Microsoft Word 2007. Microsoft’s Office software is indeed a great tool for bloggers/writers. I found it very useful in writing a blog post because of its grammar-checker tool. Yeah, I’m no good in English but I am eager to be good in English. Microsoft Word’s grammar-checker tool warns you if you have a wrong grammar in a phrase or sentence by putting a green line below it. It even gives you the right structure of the wrong phrase/sentence that you entered.
2. Encarta Dictionaries. Microsoft Encarta is a virtual encyclopedia in your PC. Encarta Dictionaries is included in the pack, and it’s awesome. In writing a blog post, simple words are good, right? But nicer words than simple are better. I use Encarta Dictionaries to find a better synonym of a specific word to make my post more like a professionally written blog post!
3. Google Trends. So you want to write an SEO-related post? Then use Google Trends. Google Trends tells you what web users search for and the most active keywords. SEO contains different complicated stuffs (website optimization, link-building, etc.) which are not easy to learn. So if you want to write a blog post that you want to optimize for search engines, then Google Trends is a nice tool for you.

I love blogging. Why? Because it makes my English vocabulary better. And it is a big “plus” in conquering the real world.

I hope these three tools may help you to improve your writing abilities, even just a little.

Last July, I posted here some juicy links where you can find cool Tumblr layouts. But many suggested that it would be better if I post specific layouts here in my blog. Yeah, that’s a cool idea. Tumblr is a great platform for your on-the-go blogs, and of course, it needs great layout, too.

The web is a huge world. And it is so hard to find tiny pieces of precious Tumblr layouts. But, Tumblr itself made the search for you.

In your Tumblr dashboard, hit the Customize link, and you’ll be redirected to their customization panel where you can tweak and edit your tumblr blog’s settings and the layout or theme.
