Holy week – the last week of the lent and the time where Catholics commemorate the last few days of Jesus Christ’s early life. It is also a long vacation because at this week, different businesses close to join the faithful commemoration of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for us. There are different traditions that we live on as Filipinos during this Holy week. The Palm Sunday where we bring “palaspas” or pal leaves to churches, the “sinakulo” or a play depicting the sufferings of Jesus Christ and of course, the Visita Iglesia.
Visita Iglesia is an old tradition that originally came from Rome, where people would visit the seven great basilicas in Rome. And here in the Philippines, people visit seven churches here in the Philippines and faithfully praying the Stations of the Cross. Visita Iglesia is also a great way to discover the Philippines’ greatest churches that age over hundreds and hundreds of years.
It is indeed a spiritually-refreshing activity during the Holy Week or Semana Santa with your family. The Griffin Sierra Travel Inc. – a major travel company – offers a good way to visit the Philippines baroque churches this Visita Iglesia. GSTI is a travel company where you can look for very nice packages for travel. They’re the one who will organize your bus trips to different churches and other things that related to traveling. It is ineed a great feeling where the only thing that you need to do is to relax, and focus to the Holy Week’s activities.
Visita Iglesia is a great activity that Filipinos never forget. And I encourage you to go Visita Iglesia this Semana Santa.
