My First Take on Slow Shutter Speed Photography

Shutter speed is one of the most important element when taking a picture. So, what is shutter speed? Shutter speed is the length of time of the light entering your camera. The faster the shutter speed, the lower the light enters your camera and the lower the exposure of the photo. And if the shutter speed is set to slow, then the photo will be over-exposed or having too much light because the length of time for the light to enter your camera is too long.
Shutter speed is a very good element in creative photography, too. Many photographers are enjoying the shutter speed photography because it challenges your creativity in taking a picture. And me, as a photographer, I want to try it, too. I chose slow shutter speed instead of fast shutter speed because it’s more fun to do, for me.
In my room, I closed the door and the light and opened my 2.1 speaker. The speaker that I used has a light on it (you can see it here) and that light is the superstar in this photo set: My First Take on Slow Shutter Speed Photography.
I got more photos but I think, these four photos are the best. Unfortunately, I didn’t successfully created a more familiar figure here, but I am still happy with the result, let’s just assume the figures created are abstract figures (LOL).
So, how I did it? First, I set up the shutter speed of my Canon EOS 1000D in to a very slow speed ( I’m sorry, I can’t remember what the exact digits of the speed that I used). Then, as I press the shutter button, I moved my camera from left to right (with circular movement). In photography, it is called panning. Moving your camera, focusing to the subject as it moves. But in this case, the subject (the light of the speaker) is not moving, so I just moved my camera as if the light is moving.
As of now, my plan is to have a pictorial and will use this technique, slow shutter speed photography.

Yeah, that’s possible. But be sure your name is short enough to write it on air within 5-10 seconds.
Thank you, mister llama.

First of all, I was about to ask what is this thing you were taking pictures of. But now I know when you explained below your post. It’s really awesome! So abstract to me.
I am also fascinated with photography but I don’t quite understand the terms like shutter speed, focusing, etc. Hubby owns a Nikon D90 but I wish someday I learn to use it, too. I will definitely visit this site for more lessons on photography.

interesting shots, the shutter speed indeed has a dramatic impact on the appearance of objects specially on moving objects… Nice camera you have there as well…
