The Impact of Typhoon Ondoy’s Wrath

The great Ondoy. Yes, that typhoon Ondoy left our country with a huge deep scar on our faces. And this deep scar will never be vanished. Evidence? Here:

Ondoy's Wrath

Our house (white one) surrounded with Ondoy's kids (flood).

Ondoy's Wrath

This is where children of our compound play. But now, only tadpoles and dirt can play there.

Yeah, that’s our place, surrounded by water. But we’re still lucky. Our compound is surrounded by huge dikes which prevent the flood to go on our houses. But still, Ondoy’s rage flows in our compound.

Annoyance, irritation, hassle – these words are the perfect nouns for this huge mess. And guess what, everytime I go to school, I need to wear large waterproof boots just to cross the flooded road up to the tricycle terminal. Our bathroom is unavailable because of the clogged pipes. The electricity is unstable. And the worst, the smell of the flood is so nasty because the drainage’s things overflowed everywhere.

But the bright side of this great calamity is that we learned to help. The unities of people emerge as they are very eager to help the victims of the typhoon. One of these unities is the Lopez Group of Companies. A huge group of companies who owns one of the biggest networks here in the Philippines, the ABS-CBN (Kapamilya Network). The Lopez Group of Companies help the most in-need people through their star-studded program, “Sagip Kapamilya”. Many of the volunteers are stars from ABS-CBN who willingly help to pack the relief goods and even went to risky flooded areas to help the rescuers in saving the lives of different affected people.

Lopez Group of Companies is spreading the good word of their great help through LopezLink. They have a forum page where users exchange various thoughts about the volunteers’ work on helping the victims. I also posted a reply on one of the topics there about the Sagip Kapamilya Volunteers. LopezLink’s website also posted an article about the Sagip Kapamilya which is a good read. This huge group of companies really knows when and how to help. Be one of the most updated about their volunteer work via Facebook page of LopezLink.

This calamity is an eye opener. Nature is in anger. We need to stop this dreadful wrath of the nature by saving them from widespread devastation of their properties (mountains, natural resources, trees, air). Let us do our job for this calamity not to happen again. Please.

Buti at hindi katulad yung sitwasyon ninyo sa mga nakikita namin sa TV. Nakaka-awa talaga. Pagkatapos ni Ondoy, nanalasa naman si Pepeng. Parang hindi pinatawad ang Luzon. Ang importante, safe kayo.

@Kevin Ray N. Chua
Oo, malaking tulong ang nagawa ng dike na nakapalibot samin, hindi kami binaha unlike sa karatig barangays dito, talagang lubog sa baha.

Thanks Kevin!

The calamity was really an eye-opener for us since the storm that hit us affected both the rich and poor people. Being in the upper crust can’t spare people from experiencing fortuitous events. More or less, there was a unity in terms of sympathy from the flood. Overwhelming enough to see, I hope Filipinos can be consistent throughout times of despair. ;)

And hey, good thing your whole area wasn’t completely submerged by the flood. :)

Let’s not say I’m a victim of Ondoy,- I survived Ondoy.

Hey pare.

Hey Kelvs, when you told me OK naman kayo I assumed hindi kayo inabot ng baha. Baha din pala sa paligid nyo.

Stay away from the water ha – don’t come in contact with it as much as possible and if you do, always wash up afterwards. Mahirap na, daming water borne diseases.

Ingat!

Your neighborhood is beautiful, even flooded, Kelvin. But these last photos and your post convey the ugliness of a flood: the backed up plumbing, the erratic power losses, the dampness and the stench. If you don’t keep after it, all that mess is followed by mold. And once mold sets in, it’s very hard to get rid of. Here’s an example from Louisiana, after Hurricane Katrina.

Pare,

Sigh

In our case, we left our house because the flood entered it – knee deep. My bed was floating in the water- instant water bed!

We temporarily stay in a condotel in Makati for 2 weeks until the flood totally subsided. Good thing, some friends and the company of my dad helped us with some funds to pay on the condo.

Until now, we are still cleaning our house. Hopefully, this won’t happen again.
