Last April 2009 my grandmother, Procesa Servigon gave me a copy of her poem and asked me if I could post it here at my blog. So, I posted it here to make her happy. I was glad to had my Grandma’s poem at my blog because I love her poems. I can say that she’s a natural writer.
And now, she gave me again another copy of another poem. This time, not dedicated to her family, but dedicated to Philippine’s Pride, Manny Pacquiao.

10 Tips on How To be Photogenic
40 Comments | Posted by Kelvin Servigon in Photography, Thoughts
I’d been taking pictures of others for sometime. But for sometime, too, I’d been the model for other photographers. Being a model is a lot of fun. Especially when your photographer has a good sense of humor. Friendship is instant here.
But there’s always sad moment. When you saw the results of your photos–unpleasant, not appropriate, HORRIBLE. But you can avoid this depressing moment if you are PHOTOGENIC (yeah).
Being photogenic is very important in taking photos of humans (like us). Some says that it’s a gift from God, but for me, it’s not a gift, it’s a skill. You can learn how yourself to be photogenic in pictures. You can practice many things to achieve your photogenic looks. And there are several ways to do this.
Based from my little experience, and from some google research, I found 10 ways on how to be photogenic. Yeah, brace yourself for these ways–very simple.
- Know your angle. Everytime you face the mirror, try looking for the best angle where you are looking good. Is it at the left side of your face? Right side? Front? Look for it.
- Practice smiling. Before facing the camera, face first your best buddy, the mirror. Practice smiling, know your perfect smile. In some case, when your smiling in front of a camera, you believe that your smile is nice, but when you look yourself at the mirror, it’s unpleasant. This happens because you don’t give your best smile. Hey, you’re beautiful right? C’mon, give ‘em your best SMILE!
- Can’t smile that much? Saying some words while smiling will help you, a little. The word cheese will give you the ordinary smile. But saying “A”, pronounced as “ey” not “ah”, while smiling will open your mouth a little bit which will give you some spice in your face. Sexy looking thing.
- Think yourself as the most handsome/beautiful living creature in the world. This will help you. It will boost your confidence in front of the camera. BELIEVE YOURSELF.
- Choose appropriate clothes when taking yourself. Choose the clothes that will fit not only you but also the background. (This is applicable only for self-portraits. Being a model doesn’t need this, because other staffs will do this for them )
- Give yourself some facial treatment. I mean, wear some make-up. If necessary, wear heavier make-up, or light ones if not. It will extremely help you, especially to those who have acne.
- Always straight, but not all the time. While in front of camera, if you are standing, stand straight. Always do the good posture. But always obey what the photographer said for your pose. But if you think something’s wrong, try to tell it to him. It’s not bad to express your feelings, right?
- Play with your eyes. Your eye is your key to good expression, especially in not-smiling poses. Fierce eyes–very great!
- Relax. Relax yourself man. Don’t be nervous or afraid in front of the camera, it will not eat you! Being relax will help you be good in photos, but being nervous will be reflected in the photos. You choose.
- Enjoy the shoot. Being comfortable with your co-workers will boost some confidence, and enjoying the shoot will give you more perfect smiles and relaxing poses.

Everyone who’s luckily in-love with his/her destined-to-be bride/groom always wants a dream wedding. An extravagant and glamorous or a simple yet full of fun weddings are the choices of every soon-to-be couples. But this dream wedding is not perfect without a piece of proof. A thing that will flash back all the memories of the wedding bells and flying doves. A great digital artwork that you’ll treasure in your entire life–wedding videos and photos.
I’d been an assistant photographer in some weddings this summer. And that’s a great experience for me. And as we took pictures, there’s always a wedding videographer accompanying us. I always wonder how they capture, edit and stylize their videos. I remembered what they said to me, that being a videographer is no joke. It’s harder than being a photographer. Especially in weddings, which great happenings are always unexpected.
Wedding videos are hard to produce. But with Reality Wedding Video, it’s a piece of cake. Reality Wedding Video by Buddy Gancenia is an example of a almost perfect wedding video experience. They offer wedding videography for your special days set like a reality show. They capture all the scenes, from the preparation, behind the scenes, interviews and of course, the main event. (more…)
