Red Mobile Conquers 2G Phones in the Philippines
11 Comments | Posted by Kelvin Servigon in News, Technology, Thoughts

Red Mobile now opens its network to 2G phones and still offers the lowest per minute rate of Php 0.50 (Red to Red Subscribers only).
Red Mobile is a Phillipine-based prepaid network which offers the lowest per minute rates and countrywide coverage. It also offers 3G coverage, since it started its services.
And now, because of the Philippines whooping 150 to 200 million SMS sent everyday, some of the users are using 2G handsets. And as an answer for that, Red Mobile is now available on 2G handsets nationwide.
“Cellphones have been the defining mode of communication in the country because of its practicality and mobility,” says Red Mobile Product Manager Darvin Sy Su. “By expanding the scope of our services to 2G handsets, more consumers among the estimated 14 to 16 million Filipino mobile phone users will enjoy the competitive rates offered by our network.”
Red mobile offers the cheapest call rates for only PHP 0.50 per minute! That means a lot. With my 10 pesos, I can call my girlfriend for 20 minutes (yey!!!). It offers PHP 0.50 per text/MMS too!
And that’s not all. Some networks offers unlimited calls but, is it really unlimited? With so bad signal, you can’t even call someone without cuts and chopped signals. But with Red Mobile, signal is a serious thing. Red Mobile is proud with its countrywide coverage with 8, 477 cellsites – the widest in the Philippine mobile network industry. This means, Red Mobile promised a non-choppy and non-spotty signals all over the nation.
Now available with 3G and 2G handsets, offering both quality and economy rates, Red Mobile can be the next big prepaid network in the texting capital of the world – the Philippines.

I think Red Mobile is promising but the company lacks marketing. I don’t know anyone who owns a Red Mobile sim. :P

Red Mobile is impressive.. but not impressive enough to move me.
I know you are referring to sun cell in the “other networks.”
well, the signal may not be as powerful as red mobile.. YET…
Sun has improve a great deal since it started. I only spend 150 a month for load.. that’s a lot cheaper than ANY network can offer. :P
Oh well, but the video call is a bit tempting, but I still find it quite unnecessary. And yeah. I agree with bryan. It lacks in marketing.
oh, and btw, Sun has great signals in areas in the province here in Cebu. I live in the mountain Areas (near Tops) and yet sun triumphs over Globe and at times, Smart.

I haven’t tried Red mobile yet. At least the more competition out there, the consumer will be the one who will benefit more.

yes let’s vote with our money! nag red ako kse nga mura at matino nmn ang connection. it’s a buyer’s market sa dami ng competition sa telco at buti na lang dahil ang mga subscribers din ang panalo.
