Archive for March 2009
From melting glaciers to increasingly intense weather patterns, I know that climate change is already impacting life on our planet.
On Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 8:30 pm (Phil. time), Me and my whole family will take part in Earth Hour—the world’s largest global climate change event. By simply turning out all non-essential lighting for one hour at our homes, we will join tens of millions of concerned citizens throughout the world in calling for action to save our planet for future generations.
Led by the World Wildlife Fund, more than 50 million people in 370 cities around the world took part in Earth Hour last year. The lights went out at Sydney’s Opera House, Rome’s Coliseum, the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge. Even the Google homepage went dark for the day.
This year, Earth Hour will be even bigger. Here in the Philippines, cities large and small have said they’ll participate including Calumpit, Bulacan, with more signing up daily. They will join international cities such as Beijing, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, London, Manila, Mexico City, Moscow, New York, Paris, Rome, and Toronto.

Kelvin Servigon: From Blogger to Photographer

Yes! Yes! Yes! I am a photographer now! Even before, I had a dream to be a photographer, someday. But without a camera, a good camera, photography is impossible. But, because I’m lucky to have great parents, I have a Canon EOS 1000D right now.
But I am not a good photographer. I am a newbie, a beginner, an infant in the world of photography. Still, I am working hard to improve my skills on it. And an experiment tested my skills. I invited my cousins for a photoshoot. Something just for fun that will benefit us. I will call it, “eXperiment 1.0″. I got Keith Anne (my sister) and Camille and Adrian (my cousins) as my models.
Here are the photos from the pictorial “eXperiment 1.0“:

Before the Mr. PICE pageant, my Mom and Dad promised me that they would give me something that I want IF I would win. And because I was lucky that night, I won the pageant, plus a new “something”. They asked me what I want. I thought of something, of course, that would give me new experience, and that was a D-SLR.
I searched the world wide web for a very good D-SLR for beginners. Then, I found the Nikon D40. Some of my friends at Flickr told me that this D-SLR was good and fit for a beginner. After gaining this information, I told my Mom that this camera was what I wanted. And they agreed to me. So, last Sunday, March 1, me, my Mom, my younger sister and other relatives had a trip to SM City Pampanga, to shop, relax and enjoy the weekend. Me and my mom went to SM Appliance Center to ask if there’s an available Nikon D40 dslr. But, the saleslady said that they don’t have. She just brought us at the stand where Canon cameras displayed. Then we saw Canon EOS 1000D D-SLR camera. It cost Php 32, +++.00. I said to my mom that it’s too pricey, but she just said that, “Ok ba sa ‘yo ‘yan?” (“Is that ok to you?”). Of course, I said yes! Because it’s way better than Nikon D40 (Am I right?). Then, she said that she would buy that thing! I was shocked that my mom chosen that pricey cam instead of going somewhere to search for Nikon D40 which is cheaper that Canon 1000D. (more…)
